The Needs of Children with Celiac & Gluten Intolerance

To initiate kindergarden without any gluten anywhere is the only way for parents with affected children to send them out with no regrets. It is basically impossible to teach small children to not mix, or exchange, their foods, snacks, or sweets. It is possible though to supply them with everything they want, need, and crave for. TASTE LIFE implemented a whole selection of organic and gluten free snacks, and breads, into their product range that cater to the needs of small children.
The same rules apply to schools: Without at least one whole floor, or a gluten free cafeteria, the affected children are always at risk.

We have to think about it: Why is it exactly that (minimum) a third of all children are prone to allergies that destroy their tissues, compromise their life quality, and cause long term harming effects that we're just about to get a glimpse of?

What Are We Exactly Waiting For?

We know already that our way of eating is violating our children's immunity badly, not only to the effect of gluten intolerance. Obesity, diabets, back problems, migraines: They suffer from conditions they shouldn't even know the names of at such early age. How come we missed out on all the factors that led to it? And what can we do NOW?

Selling gluten free products alone won't do the job. The task needs to be built on knowledge – and on people who are willing to stand for the protection of that knowledge, and to execute it. Dubai, with its growing awareness of the problem, is the perfect place to begin with.

Don't get fooled!

A lot of people who maybe honestly thinking that they sell gluten free are actually not knowing what they are talking about, leave alone doing.

  • If you order "gluten free pizza", more often than not it was baked in the same oven as regular pizza with all kinds of flours swirling around.
  • "Gluten free valentine cookies" contain chocolates from factories which produce "non gluten additives" in the same hall as their gluten containing selection.
  • Some people think, if "gluten" isn't written on the package, the content of that package, i.e. icing sugar, is actually free oft it. What a fatal error!

A gluten sensitive person, and even more a celiac child, may pay for such mistakes badly. Infections that may become life threatening are only one of various possibilties. What their mums cooked for them within one whole year, may be destroyed with only one cookie baught in the wrong place.

Buy Packed & Sealed Products

Rule of thumb is: Buy packed and sealed products that say "gluten free" on the package. Once the package is opened you are already at risk.
"Home made" is, for a gluten sensitive person the ultimately seductive word. Watch out! There is a reason why world leading product units like Dr. Schär's have a constant cross contamination air control, and is sealed like Fort Knox from the public.

It is a huge task to take on, not only in the Arab world. So many children are affected. 99 % of them are undiagnosed. Most pediatrics hardly heard about celiac, and gluten intolerance. We need helping hands, to spread awareness.
TASTE LIFE
is at source for it, with an immesurable data base to dwell on, filled not only with foods, but with facts, and knowledge how to impact the life of many children in a positive way.

Kids with Celiac disease, or gluten intolerance, is a painful story: severely discomforting for them, heartwrecking for their parents, and a constant annoyance for their siblings. They all need our help. As long as we don't pay attention, and rather consider it a minority problem, we put their lives at stake. Celiac has increased by 400 % in the last 50 years. Imagine that for cancer! All alarm belles would ring, right?

The story of Aili, a little two year old girl, gave TASTE LIFE's founders the final impulse to no longer accept the status quo.
Her mom, in desperate search for some help – products she could feed her, doctors who knew about the celiac condition –  finally founded glutenfreeuae.com
. Maybe, one day Aili will have a small place in the history of the UAE with shedding a light on a situation we can no longer accept … not for Aili, and not for alle the other children, and adults.
